San Diego is one of the most popular scuba diving destinations. It has plenty of underwater reefs, sandy beaches and offshore ship wrecks. People from all over the world come to enjoy it. Be it for the La Jolla Cove snorkelling, ocean kayaking or kelp forest diving, it is ‘the place’ to be in. La Jolla Cove on the west coast is an Ecological Reserve with beautiful temperate water fish, harbour seals and sea lions. A large variety of marine life can be found in the kelp forests like crustaceans, fish, marine mammals and invertebrates. These forests are sometime considered to be dangerous, so the divers are always advised to carry a knife with them. There are huge numbers of artificial reefs and shipwrecks. You just need a boat to reach these destinations. Wreck Alley, Naval Electronics Lab, The El Rey, The Ruby E etc. are examples of such artificial wrecks. The kelp forests have an average temperature of 60F. Swimming through these kelp beds is an experience by itself. 7 Fathom Pinnacles is a “you cannot miss” destination. With depth varying from 85-45 meter, it is surrounded with deep water and a visibility of around 25ft.
Scuba diving instructions are provided by the San Diego Lifeguards in collaboration with San Diego Council of Divers. Many divers die due to inadequate training, so it is necessary for you to be 100% percent prepared before you get down into the water. There are plenty of places that you can explore and enjoy at San Diego.
