There are plenty of jobs as scuba divers worldwide but the more qualified you are, the more marketability you have. So a certified course from a globally recognised institute is essential. In some countries like United Kingdom, you need an authorisation from UK Health and Safety Department to be a commercial diver.
Scuba divers basically train two types of divers, i.e. the recreational divers and the professional divers. The course fees are around US$ 10,000 to US$ 20,000 depending on the institution which most of the time covers the expenses related to study materials, diving equipments, food and lodging etc. High paid jobs are easily available in countries like Italy, Greece, Dominican Republic, United States, Malaysia, Thailand, Croatia, Cyprus, Cayman Island and other popular tourist destinations which are engaged in underwater activities. A scuba diver can apply for various posts depending on his skill and experience like Diver, MSDT Instructor, Certified Technician, O/W Internship, Divemaster etc.
Apart from being a trainer, you can work for media, military and police. One of the most popular sections of commercial diving is “offshore diving” where you can work for oil and gas industry. You can assist them in exploration and production system. Offshore diving is majorly required in North Sea in UK and Norway and Gulf of Mexico in the U.S. On the other hand, onshore diving is considered less risky than the former. It basically deals with civil engineering projects like underwater survey of lakes, harbours, rivers, bridges etc. Opportunities around there are plenty. You need to decide where you actually fit in.
